New arrivals - Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cymbals, Scorn, Saigon Rock & Soul, Hangover Lounge, Carlton Melton and many more

In no particular order, (apart from the order they're listed on the invoices), here is a list of the latest arrivals instore - without pictures this time, as it was quicker! Anything with an asterisk means it was released for Record Store Day 2011, so it's limited.

PEANUT BUTTER WOLF - PEANUT BUTTER BREAKS (STONES THROW) LP £16
Originally released way back in 1994 and reissued on the fabulous Stones Throw ten years ago, this still sounds fresh. If you are a downtempo, trip hop, or hip hop fan, this is record the record for you.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE - ISN'T ANYTHING (PLAIN RECORDINGS) LP £19
The debut album proper from MBV, released over 20 years ago. If it's original shoegaze you want, look here. A true indie classic that should be in any self-respecting music fan's collection. In fact, you've probably already got it, and if you haven't, it's probably because you lent it out and never got it back, so now would be a good time to replace it, right?

SCORN - REFUSE; START FIRES (OHM RESISTANCE) 2LP £18
Mick Harris (Napalm Death, Lull, Painkiller, Weakener, Quoit and many others) has enlisted a bit of help from his mate Ian Tracy, who plays live drums on this album, which is as heavyweight as anything he's done before. Bass-heavy, naturally, and as usual, top quality. It would be impossible to recommend this enough.

SURF CITY - KUDOS (FIRE RECORDS) LP £16
Buzz pop psych nuggets from this NZ four piece. Think of the 80s Kiwi jangle pop, mix it in with some VU and 60s UK psych and you've got an idea what this sounds like. And of course the name is taken from The Jesus And Mary Chain, so that is a clear indication of the band's influences.

ELEPHANT9 - DODOVOODOO (RUNE GRAMMOFON) LP £18
The debut album from this Norwegian experimental jazz trio of drums, keys and electric bass. As the band members have a rock background it does have a heavier edge than some contemporary jazz and would bring to mind the funkier side of Deep Purple. We also have their follow-up, Walk The Nile in stock too.

BRUCE HAACK - FARAD:  VOCODER MUSIC 1969-1982 (STONES THROW) LP £20
We've had this weird and interesting album in before, and it went pretty quickly, so here's a restock. Like another electronic music pioneer, his friend Raymond Scott, most of Haack's instruments were homemade, and this album covers the music made by Haack mainly throughout the 70s. Lots of electronics, obviously, and Vocoded vocals sit alongside drones, Moogs, psychedelia, and all sorts of weird bits and bobs. Certainly worth a look/listen for those of you into something a bit different.

V/A - SAIGON ROCK & SOUL (SUBLIME FREQUENCIES) 2LP £25
Fuzzy, exotic, acid rock, psychedelic, surf rock, swinging, funky, soulful. lo-fi, groovy, kitsch - they all apply. This album covers the Vietnamese rock, pop and soul sound of the late 1960s and early 1970s and is on double LP with extensive liner notes. If you want to see how much you think you know about 60s/70s Asian music, check the tracklist! A1. CBC Band - Tình Yêu Tuyệt Vời (The Greatest Love) A2. Elvis Phương - Bài ca ngông (The Crazy Song) A3. Carol Kim - Cái Trâm Em Cài (Your Hair Clip) A4. Thành Mái - Tóc Mai Sợi Vắn Sợi Dài (Long, Uneven Hair) B1. Carol Kim - Nỗi Buồn Con Gái (The Sadness Of Being A Girl) B2. Bich Loan and CBC Band - Con tim và nước mắt (Heart And Tears) B3. Phương Tâm - Đêm huyền diệu (Magical Night) B4. Lệ Thu - Sao Biển (Etoile Des Neiges) (Starfish) C1. Minh Xuân & Phượng Hoàng - Mặt trời đen (Black Sun) C2. Thai Thanh - Bừng Sáng (Dawn) C3. Bang Chan - Những đóm mắt hoả châu (Fireballs) C4. Giao Linh - Chuyện Tình Sao Ly (A Love Story From Sau Ri) D1. Elvis Phương - Kho Tàng Của Chúng Ta (Our Treasures) D2. Thanh Lan - Hoài Thu (Autumn Memory) D3. Hùng Cường & Mai Lệ Huyền - Hờn Anh Giận Em (Jealousy) D4. Mai Lệ Huyền - Duyên phận con gái (A Girl's Destiny) D5. Phương Dung - Đố Ai (Riddles)

DUCKTAILS / DRACULA LEWIS - SPLIT (NO FUN PRODUCTIONS) LP £18*
Beautifully terrifying cavern drone sounds from Dracula Lewis and psychedelic spiralling melodies and electronic beats from Ducktails. Weird and out there, but it's on Carlos Giffoni's No Fun Productions, so what do you expect?

SAND - GOLEM (Rotorelief) LP £25
The is a reissue the legendary 1974 album, produced by Klaus Schulze, from the cosmic and psychedelic genius that is Sand. Julian Cope's album of the month back when it came out on CD, this is the vinyl version, and it is a beautiful thing. Rotorelief are releasing some beautiful things right now. Check out his review here: Archdrude's review - he says more about the album than I ever could.

CURRENT 93 - WHEN THE MAY RAIN COMES (Rotorelief) 12" £12
Also on Rotorelief comes this cover of the track by Sand, and it has two mixes split over the two sides. Another beautiful looking piece of art, the lead track first appeared on Current 93's influential album "Thunder Perfect Mind". Also appearing on this 12'' is an alternate version of the same track from a CD single which accompanied the first 1,000 copies of Tibet and Stapleton’s release of material by Sand, Ultrasonic Seraphim.

OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ - TELESTERION (RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ PRODUCTIONS) 4LP PLUS D/L / 2CD £60 / £20*
There aren't enough superlatives to describe what is contained here. This is the first compilation album by Omar as a solo artist. Both the CD and LP versions include a 20-page booklet with never-before-seen photos and liner notes by Omar's longtime friend and collaborator Sonny Kay. For anyone who is into music that challenges, excites, questions and confuses you, this album should cover all those bases. Without a doubt, one of the most amazing compilations to have ever come out, and that's not hyperbole, honest! For fans of At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta as well, obviously.

MOZZY GREEN - ROBOTS (360 Degree Music) £8*
The music of this trio (guitar/drums/cello/vocals) takes Tom Waits, Syd Barrett, Elliott Smith, Stravinsky and twisted folk, and adds a punk attitude. An interesting debut.

CARLTON MELTON - COUNTRY WAYS (MID TO LATE) COLOURED VINYL PICTURE DISC LP £20*
We beieve these are coloured vinyl picture discs, but because they're sealed we can't confirm that 100%, but that's how they were sold to us anyway! Colossal psychedelic riffs, psych drones, FX'd ambience, wah wah, trance-inducing rock. If you like Wooden Shjips, Moon Duo and the like then this is right up your noisy street.

V/A - LOCAL CUSTOMS: PRESSED AT BODDIE'S (THE NUMERO GROUP) 2LP / COLOURED MC £25 / £12*
The Numero Group does it again, unleashing an amazing batch of work for the first time ever, all packaged in a very limited Record Store Day set. The collection features material that was pressed up at the tiny Boddie pressing plant in Cleveland, a wonderful range of local artists from the late 60s through the mid 80s. The set is slanted heavily towards rare funk and soul, there's also some compelling rock sides too, especially some homegrown, dark-toned sounds from the 80s, clearly influenced by the styles in the UK underground. The set features 17 tracks in all – including "Don't Stop Smiling" by Jus Us, "Just A Dream" by Imperial Wonders, "Love Is On The Way" by Bill Spoon, "Let Me Go" by The Harmonics, "I'm Gonna Treat You Good" by The Donations, "Good For The Gander" by Hot Chocolate, "Woman You're Gonna Pay For This" by Wicked Lester (featuring future members of KISS), "The Voyage Of The Nautilus" by Russell Potter, and "Snakepit" by Berlin West. The LP includes an 18x24 fold out poster and the cassette is green!

PURLING HISS / PUFFY AREOLAS - SPLIT (PERMANENT RECORDS) LP £18*
Two US underground collectives cranking out some of the finest and fiercest shredding noise your mind will melt to. A heavy metallic wall of noise, in a good way, of course.

V/A - 4-WAY SPLIT (TROUBLE IN MIND) 7" PLUS D/L £6*
This record contains exclusive cover songs from all four artists. San Francisco savant Ty Segall tackles the Bob Seger System's fiery political number "2+2=?", Chicago's CoCoComa rips through The Wipers' "Messenger", Ottawa's finest, The White Wires cover "That's The Way A Woman Is" (popularised by the Ohio Express), and Orange County surf-punks Charlie & The Moonhearts close it out with a banging version of Love's classic "Seven & Seven Is".

NOMEANSNO - OLD (WRONG RECORDS) 12" £9
Canada's favourite power trio releases the first in a series of tour EPs which are now being repressed on 180g vinyl, and comprising four brand new tracks, these are the first songs to emerge since the release of All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt in 2006. Arguably as influential to the hardcore and punk scenes of the 80s as Minor Threat and Black Flag, their ethics, networking and quality of output encapsulates those early DIY ethics. For Fans of: Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, DOA, The Ex.

UV RACE - HOMO (IN THE RED) LP £17
This Melbourne band has been around a little while now, and this, the band's second album, has a nod to The Ramones and The Stooges, while exploring influences ranging from their Australian proto-punk and garage fascinations to American country, Krautrock and UK post-punk, citing the Velvet Underground and The Saints as influences. The album was recorded by fellow Australian Mikey Young, who is Eddy Current Suppression Ring's guitarist.
